You need to know your cleaners strengths and weaknesses. Use this information to match cleaners with the proper work assignments. This is termed skill-based work assignment. You want to play into each cleaner’s strengths and minimize work assignments that would target his or her weaknesses. If you have the opportunity, put people together that have complimentary skill sets. For example, if you have nyc house cleaners that are more efficient in a residential setting, then you will not want them working on commercial properties. These residential cleaners may be more familiar with customers’ needs in that work environment and will accomplish the job more proficiently than those that are not familiar with the residential cleaning environment. This will limit the amount of training and other resources you have to invest to get these weaker candidates up to date.
You should regularly meet with your team members. Regular one-on-one meetings are critical to good management. These meetings have several purposes. You can give feedback on job performance and speak to areas your cleaners can improve on. You will also learn about staff issues. This is the time when your cleaners can express their views on what areas you as a manager can improve on and how the company can change to cater to a changing work environment. Overall, your staff wants to feel engaged. Without exception, the number one motivating factor behind people leaving a job is poor management – that very often stems from feeling ignored. You will be graded not only on your team’s performance, but also on your turnover rate.
Lastly, motivate your cleaning crew. The best managers find ways to get their people to become motivated to do their jobs well and with pride. At the end of the day, your cleaners are the ones out there representing you and providing you with repeat bookings, so keep them motivated and hungry to succeed.
